1.Please introduce your site and yourself?

I´m Jakob Printzlau. My site is called Plastic Kid. That´s why some people know me as Jakob Plastic Kid. I was born on june 4th 1975 in a small surbarban town in Denmark.
I am a spoiled only child. Six years ago i moved to Copenhagen.
I live here with my beautiful girlfriend. I work with graphic designs for
print and web, Sing in a major label rock band and love to tell you stories from the seven seas. hawrrrrrrrr...

2.Copenhagen is a harbor city, right? It should be a beautiful city.
Can you talk about your city?

Well, Denmark is a small country. The only city resemling a big city is Copenhagen
which is the capital. One million people have their homes here which is around 1/5 of the entire danish population. I live in a nice part of town calle Noerrobro, which
has anything from squatted houses with punks in them, to sidewalk cafes and arabian barbecue houses. I really like the variety of the place. This part of town has
a history of being a socialist working class neigbourhood.
Copenhagen is a very beautiful town. Kinda small but still somewhat a big city.

3.Denmark designers seem to like to keep their own tradition for design rather than being affacted by other cultures. What do you think about it?

Well, actually i think that scandinavian style in terms of graphics and design has
changed a lot during the past few years. I believe that scandinavian designers used to be known for keeping everything very clean cut. Luckily, there is a huge counterreaction
against all this corporate stuff now. People are very inventive.
I really don´t have a huge network of scandinavian people around me when i work,
but I notice that there are some really really good ones out there.
I have a few really good contacts who have a very developed style.
But if there is a certain scandinavian style in graphic design at this time i couldn´t say.
I try not to study styles and genres too much. That way i can get more influences from anywhere without having to submit to any rules.

4.What kind of company is "Ultraplus" that you're working at?
What do you do there and what's your position there?

Well Ultraplus doesn´t exist anymore. The reason why you would ask is because it´s
still listed on my site profile. I just haven´t updated the old site for a while.
I have a brand new design just on the way, which will state something different
about my working position. The story is, that my band The Fashion (www.thefashion.dk)
got a major label record deal so i had to quit work to do the album.
Ultraplus was a company I was running with a friend for a very short period before
my situation changed. Therefore, I am now working from home, freelancing all i have time for with studies and a musical career on the side.

5.When I look at your profile on the site, it says "Multimediedesigner AK - CPH 2002
Technology and Communication - CPH 1999" Could you please tell me in detail about these?
What did you study there?

Well i have a multimediadesign education, which is basically a general education in
strategy, marketing, coomunications and design. In the two year period of these studies i mostly focused on interface designs, and i wrote a huge thesis on usabilty and the lack
there of based on the theories of Mr. Jacob Nielsen ( the danish guy who is famous for
his far out rules of designing ). Right now I am trying to get a bachelor degree in
medialogi which will bring me on to my masters which is probably 3 more years of study.
But I am trying to take it slow. I wanna have time to play around with all my projects too,
so i won´t get stressed out. Being creative is always nuber one for me.

6.As far as I know, "Scandinavian Color - Field Design" is a Denmark's own design use method. What do you think about this design use method?

I actually don´t use too many design methods.Well I probably do, but I don´t
wanna know about it when i design. I think it´s best to study the rules and know about em, and then try not to think too much about em when you go at it.
For me designing is all about playing. The fewer rules the better for me. I hate genres,
rules and laws. That´s not what art is about for me.

7.How long did it take to complete your site, and on which point did you put importance?

Well, the site that you have seen at this point was actually boring me before i finished it,
but i needed an online portfolio to make contact with people at the time.
I just tryed to make something that would get me a job..hahaha.
My next one will be way more honest since i don´t need a job no more.
I like keeping things basic and still have a twist of something raffined.
So i guess simplicity with a twist is always the key.
But i like messed up stuff equally as much. I reallly like sites that breaks all rules.
Sites that has a wierd format or something to investigate. I am not big fan of flash.
I think very few people can control their temptation to make every little thing move.
Once you get to the content of a flashy site and there is nothing to see it´s
always really riduculous...I like basic stuff. There are some really good flashers out
there too, but i was never of to great interest to me. I don´t need moving features to be
entertained if the look has a balance and a good finish.
That´s just mainly because i tend to focus on something different than the actual
technical features of a website.

8.As you can see on the “Plastic, kid”, you often use toys to design and also you seem to like playing with toys, Is that why you named your site“Plastic.kid”?

I love action toys. I collect them. It drives my girlfriend mad sometimes.
The name actuyally refferes to something different. When i was getting the domain name,
I was reflecting on the media i was going to put my work on.
I was thinking about how many youngsters spending their childhood in front of a computer screen, gaming, surfing, chatting. Those kids never get in touch with the reality of the outside world. Everything becomes a substitute reality. When you loose the ability to entertain your yourself without the presense of TV and computers, something is wrong.
So actually that´s why i picked the name. Childof fake reality = Plastic Kid

9.Which project of Web, CD, Print(art-book/T-shirt). etc is the most hard, but rewarding work for you so far ?

I like print the most. As much as i hate the internet i really get bored with the format.
Nothing on the web really exists psysically. I like seeing my designs in a book or
a magazine on some nice paper alongside something else. I love doing designs for CD and vinyls too. That always leaves so many options for the formats. But handmademade stuff is really what i like the most. I like cutting our stuff from magazines and gluing it on top of eachother and scratch it with nails and stuff like that. Mixed media is always fun,
cause you feel it between your hands. That my favorite. I just get too lazy to do them
when i am stcuk i front of my damn computer.

10.What philosophy is hidden in your work “splash” ?

It´s not a term that i have invented. But for me it referres to the way you would do an
abstact picture. Just dip your brush in a paint buked , splash the paint on a canvas and see where it takes you. Rodeo27 is full of work like that. Art for the sake of art.

11.What is your intention in making "rodeo27" ? It seems that famous visual artists joined at " ths ,d5ive ,misprintedtype " whose styles are pretty similar to yours
"splash" on your site "rodeo 27".What is it that you're pursuing on your site "rodeo27"?

Well, i think the text on the site explains it perfectly, so allow me to quote from that:
"Other than being an online magazine Rodeo27 is a protest more than anything. Rodeo 27 is a revolt against commercialism, and an ongoing series of splash strips involving various
designers. Rodeo 27 is a non profit playground for graphics and art. We only serve the few who care and we do little to please the masses. We oppose against the general idea, that all Internet content should be light, focused on profit, and built for 10 second browsing.

If the Internet is meant to promote capitalism we will throw a rock in the machine!

Rodeo 27 will disregard:
Internet speed and loading time, screen resolution, short attention spans, usability rules,
money, paychecks and target groups.
To consider:
Passion. Curiosity. Inspiration. Artistic freedom and expression. The right to sabotage
predestined law for design and visualization. Patience. Relations between designers,
and the joy of looking at beautiful things...."

Well, i guess you could narrow it down and say that we all need projects like this to
play with. It´s a way for me to releate to other peoples work. I really admire some of
those people in the mag, so it´s great to get a chance to do projects with them...

12.Do you think a lot of people understnd and agree with your features?
If so, how do you prepare for communicating with visitor?

On my new site i will narrow down all informtion to the most neccesairy features and let the work do the talking. i design cause i love doing it. If people dig it that´s
awesome. But if they wouldn´t i probably would continue playing anyway. It´s just
something i have always been doing in some form. I can never stop this urge to express myself with art.
